Fort Wayne Community Schools is seeking a Student Intern to assist a certified teacher in a classroom environment. The intern will support instructional activities, prepare materials, and provide clerical support while working with students on various subjects.

Responsibilities

Assist a certified teacher as they instruct individual or small groups of students in a classroom environment

Assist in monitoring and oversee student drills, practices and assignments in various subjects

Assist students in completing classroom assignments, homework and projects in various subject areas; assist students by answering questions, providing proper examples, emotional support, friendly attitude and general guidance

Perform a variety of clerical duties in support of classroom activities such as preparing, typing, duplicating and filing instructional materials

Assist designated adult in monitoring students during outdoor and recess activities as required; monitor and report progress regarding student performance and behavior

Read books to students and observe their reading abilities as assigned by the position; assist students with letter and word pronunciation and recognition as required; assist students with spelling and writing exercises and assignments

Provide classroom support to the teacher by preparing and setting up work areas, decorations, posters and displays, and distributing and collecting paper, supplies and materials

Assure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and procedures; maintain classroom and other assigned areas in a safe, orderly and clean manner

Perform related duties as assigned by the Administrator to meet the particular needs of the building/unit
