Purchasing Manager

As a Purchasing Manager, you will oversee the acquisition of goods and services, negotiate with suppliers, and ensure that inventory levels meet business objectives while maintaining customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

Develop strategies to maintain and establish inventory levels to support business objectives while ensuring internal & external customer satisfaction goals are met
Play a key role in evaluating ‘just in time’ purchasing processes & providing appropriate recommendations that match the company’s strategic plan
Oversee the scheduling of consumables from outside suppliers in order to ensure customer schedules are met, production is not interrupted due to lack of materials & inventory is kept at optimal levels
Manage & report the performance of purchasing management in terms of operational objectives & goals of the company
Establish, monitor, and manage the processes & procedures of the purchasing of materials including monitoring of all reporting systems (databases, MRP system, etc.) & proactively identify system limitations with recommended solutions. Train subordinates to these processes and procedures
Negotiate best possible vendor pricing, terms & delivery schedules
Establish relationships, agreements, blanket PO’s, and or contracts with sources with the intent of having a long-term partnership
Monitor supplier expectations and reporting for their cost, quality, and on time delivery performance in meeting the company’s needs to include supplier management through implementation of Supplier Business Reviews, Supplier Scorecards and tracking of supplier performance as appropriate
Maintains collaborative relationships with internal customers in ensuring qualified sources of supply and materials to meet those departments’ needs
Uses ERP system to monitor material demand, assisting in determining economic order quantity (EOQ), Kanban, and reorder points (ROP), and in maintaining overall control of inventory management / stocking levels. Be able to train other employees as necessary on the tool
Place purchase orders for new & existing production or non-production materials, goods and/or services
Maintain complete & accurate records for all purchases, quotations, contracts, orders, etc
As required, review invoices with accounts payable when price or terms do not agree with the purchase order
Partner with the QC Manager to ensure raw materials and consumables are released on time to the support shipment to the customer on time
Provide guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance
Recruit, hire, train and subordinates as necessary terminating employment as required. Work in conjunction with the human resources department, administers performance appraisals on a regular basis. Deal with grievances, complaints and disciplinary matters arising out of the department

Required

Bachelor's degree in materials management/business/manufacturing
Training in Purchasing Management (i.e. CPM), Inventory Management (CPIM), or Lean disciplines
Demonstrated execution of Purchasing functions
Solid purchasing & MRP experience
Ability to apply advanced knowledge of materials & supply chain management
Experience to identify & solve complex business problems
Experience developing, managing & maintaining vendor relationships
Clear & effective communication with individuals & teams within all areas of the organization
Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to adapt to change & follow through with a sense of urgency and the ability to organize and motivate subordinates and peers
Both detail oriented & able to see the big picture
Comfortable working in a high-performance work environment
Genuine desire to help the company grow according to our company's strategic plan
Ability to take initiative & work independently within a collaborative group environment
Knowledge and advanced ability to use Microsoft programs, data bases and inventory control and purchasing tracking software
Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resource modeling, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources
Excellent written and spoken communication skills
The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented though spoken words and sentences
Arithmetic, algebra, statistics and applications
