Principal Specialist, Health and Safety

Responsibilities

Recognizing, evaluating and controlling hazardous workplace conditions
Taking proactive steps to ensure the safety and health of site employees and influencing safe behaviors
Working with subject matter experts to assure compliance with applicable federal, state, local and company EHS requirements
Executing initiatives, programs, reports and trainings across multiple EH&S disciplines to achieve and maintain compliance
Auditing and evaluating current policies, procedures and documentation to assure compliance with applicable laws and regulations
Investigating, analyzing and interpreting data from injuries and near-misses ensuring corrective actions are completed on time, and all necessary documentation is in place
Interacting with employees and promoting relationships, learning the tasks employees perform and serving as a known and respected resource to the site employees. Working toward building partnerships and influencing across assigned areas to provide actionable improvement programs

Required

Typically Requires a University Degree or equivalent experience and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience
Experience implementing EHS programs and/or safety initiatives
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
DoD Clearance: Secret

Preferred

Experience managing EHS issues in a union work environment
Experience working at an OSHA VPP (Voluntary Protection Program) site
Professional Certification in the EHS field (ASP, CSP, CIH, etc.)
Project management and execution skills
Strong verbal, written and presentation communication skills
Must be able to work well independently and within a team environment
Strong computer skills, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
MS/MA degree in Safety, Engineering, Science, or Mathematics or other related field of study
