Level 3 Technician - Material and Process Labs

Blue Origin is working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems. The Level 3 Technician will leverage their technical expertise to ensure safe and efficient laboratory operations while performing material testing and maintaining laboratory equipment.

Responsibilities

Perform laboratory analysis per industry standard test methods
Summarize, document, and communicate results to stakeholders
Develop standard methods, training material, and related documentation for laboratory processes
Demonstrate strict attention to detail in executing laboratory analyses
Maintain laboratory equipment and facilities
Identify new equipment to expand laboratory capability and improve responsiveness
Safely work with hazardous systems containing chemicals, heat, and/or high pressure

Required

At least 5 years experience working in material test laboratories
Experience with engineering laboratory skills: weights and measures, chemical hygiene, materials safety planning, personal protective equipment, contamination control, workload organization and planning
Demonstrated ability to drive project and task execution to meet or beat scheduled need dates
Extremely customer focused with strong verbal and written communication skills
A continuous improvement mindset. Our job is never complete; we are always optimizing
Ability to lift 50lbs and comfortable working at heights (work stands, ladders, lifts) and/or in confined spaces
Ability to work with and around chemicals and other hazardous materials
Work off-shift, extended hours overtime, and weekends if/when necessary

Preferred

Experience using equipment used for a variety of laboratory techniques (specimen preparation, optical and/or scanning electron microscopy, mechanical/structural testing
Experience with materials analyses of fusion and friction stir weld materials and processes, aerospace structural metals, etc
Understanding of typical aerospace testing and quality processes
Understanding of the types of materials and processes used to fabricate aerospace components
Ability to operate manual machine tools (saws, routers, etc.)
