Data Management Specialist
Catapult Federal Services is a leading technology services company that supports federal law enforcement and justice operations. They are seeking a Database Engineer to administer, optimize, and manage databases and cloud infrastructure with a focus on Azure services, ensuring the security and performance of mission-critical database systems.
Responsibilities
Administer and manage Azure SQL Databases, Azure Blob Storage, and Azure Data Lake ensuring high availability and security
Optimize cloud-based databases for cost, performance, and scalability within Azure ecosystem
Automate database provisioning and management using Azure CLI, PowerShell, and AZ Copy
Monitor and resolve database performance issues, ensuring optimized query performance and uptime
Assist with database migrations to Azure SQL Database and ensure smooth transitions from on-premises environments
Design and implement data pipelines using Azure Databricks for scalable ETL processes
Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports, and visualizations providing actionable business insights
Use R Studio to build, optimize, and maintain data models and perform statistical analysis on large datasets
Support administration of Apache Tomcat servers hosting web applications and data services
Troubleshoot application performance, security, and database integration issues
Perform SQL Server database administration including backup, recovery, performance tuning, and security
Document database configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and standard operating procedures
Collaborate with developers, analysts, and business users on cross-functional projects
Support data governance initiatives and implement best practices for secure data management
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Engineering, or related field
3-5 years of database administration or data engineering experience
Hands-on experience with SQL Server, Azure cloud services, Power BI, Databricks, and Apache Tomcat
Strong knowledge of SQL Server database administration including backup, recovery, performance tuning, and security
Experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure Blob Storage, and Azure Data Lake
Proficiency with Azure Databricks for data engineering, ETL processes, and big data analytics
Experience using R Studio for data analysis, statistical modeling, and scripting
Proven ability developing and managing Power BI dashboards and reports
Familiarity with Apache Tomcat for web application and data service management
Strong troubleshooting and performance optimization skills for databases and data pipelines
Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
Clear communication skills for documentation and working with non-technical stakeholders
U.S. citizenship required
Must currently possess Public Trust clearance (DOJ Public Trust strongly preferred)
Cannot begin assignment until clearance is granted
Preferred
Current DOJ Public Trust clearance (highly preferred for faster onboarding)
Experience with Azure DevOps for CI/CD pipelines
Proficiency with Python or PowerShell for automation and scripting in cloud environments
Knowledge of data governance frameworks and best practices
Experience with data migration from on-premises SQL Server to Azure SQL Database
Microsoft certifications in Azure (Azure Database Administrator, Azure Data Engineer)
SQL Server certifications (MCSA, MCSE)
Power BI certifications (Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate)
Experience with additional Azure services (Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory)
Familiarity with Git version control and collaborative development workflows
