STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS INSPECTOR
PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD is seeking a STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS INSPECTOR for the Waterfront Inspection Branch, Non-Nuclear Inspection Division. The role involves inspecting, performing, and witnessing component installations and tests on various structural systems and conducting surveillance on production work.

Responsibilities
You will inspect, perform, and witness component installation and tests on hulls, special hull treatment tiles, compartments, tanks, decks, hatches, ladders, welding, paintings, heating and ventilation systems, etc
You will conduct surveillance on production work on shop certified items
You will conduct inspections and tests within shops and aboard naval vessels of all types, rescue chambers, experimental and test models
You will use Process Instructions, testing, and overhaul instructions as guidelines to execute work assignments
Qualification
Required
Must be a US Citizen
Must be determined suitable for federal employment
Must participate in the direct deposit pay program

You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift
Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time
Practical knowledge of the trade which includes shipboard experience with the majority of the structural or coatings, and coverings systems
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, TGI's, special test form and instructions
Working knowledge of the application of instruments and tools used in inspection and test
Ability to prepare reports and to understand directions
Ability to report deficiencies, make recommendations for repairs, and inspect authorized repairs
