Responsibilities

Test and commission protection and control relays (electromechanical, solid state, microprocessor)
Verify current/voltage inputs, SCADA metering, trip outputs, and local alarms
Perform troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of substation relaying and control systems
Commission new substations, including power equipment, pilot channels, and communication systems
Interpret and apply test procedures, equipment specs, and protection schemes
Support field service teams with documentation, coordination, and reporting
Communicate effectively with diverse clients, contractors, and teammates
Plan and execute tasks efficiently with minimal disruption to ongoing service
Work outdoors and indoors in utility environments with strict safety protocols

Required

5+ years of experience with relay calibration, commissioning, and checkout of protection/control systems
Familiarity with SCADA, fault/SER systems, integration automation gear, and data analysis
Strong understanding of three-phase systems, test equipment, wiring, and safety practices
Skilled in reading wiring and elementary diagrams
Proven ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
The primary office location will be based on the job location
Willingness to travel up to 50% across the continental U.S
High school diploma or GED required
Must pass a background check and pre-employment/random drug screenings
Valid driver's license with a clean record
Flexible schedule availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays during peak season

Preferred

Completion of a trade school program, technical college, associate degree, or skilled trade certification in welding or a related field
Experience with data centers, commissioning pilot wire/fiber systems, or full substations
Familiarity with PowerDB or relay test documentation tools
History of successful project work at RMS or similar power industry firms
