Staff Accountant
UICGS / Bowhead Family of Companies is seeking a Staff Accountant to support the Military Sealift Command (MSC) Financial Management support Services effort located in Norfolk, VA. The role involves performing various accounting tasks including financial reporting, reconciliation, and analysis while ensuring compliance with federal standards.
Responsibilities
Perform accounting, financial reporting, reconciliation, and analysis in accordance with: Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board (FASAB) Statements of Federal Financial Accounting Concepts (SFFAC) Statements of Federal Financial Accounting Standards (SFFAS) Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Department of Defense Financial Management Regulation (DoD FMR)
Support the preparation, review, and audit of financial statements, journal entries, trial balances, and supporting documentation
Conduct internal control reviews, including testing and documentation in support of the Federal Managers’ Financial Integrity Act (FMFIA) and OMB Circular A-123 requirements
Analyze general ledger activity, perform variance analysis, and resolve discrepancies
Prepare reconciliations, financial schedules, adjustments, and audit-ready work-papers
Assist in developing corrective action plans to address audit findings, internal control deficiencies, or material weaknesses
Support the implementation, testing, and operation of financial management systems and accounting modules
Provide technical accounting advice to project management and Government stakeholders
Prepare written correspondence, reports, and briefings and participate in meetings with program management, auditors, and financial leadership
Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint, including pivot tables, complex formulas, and presentation development
Maintain active certification requirements where applicable (CPA, CIA, CGFM, CDFM)
Qualification
Required
Five (5+) years of accounting experience
Possess a current professional license as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
Knowledge of change management principles and performance evaluation processes
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team
Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint, including pivot tables, complex formulas, and presentation development
Maintain active certification requirements where applicable (CPA, CIA, CGFM, CDFM)
Must be able to lift 25 pounds on occasion
Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged period amounts of time
Must be able to twist, bend, and squat periodically
Must be able to maintain a security clearance at the Public Trust level
US Citizenship is a requirement for this contract
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in related field preferred
