Responsibilities

Carefully review and appropriately redact requests for the release of sensitive health information, ensuring compliance with privacy regulations and institutional policies. This includes data related to HIV/AIDS status, mental health diagnoses and treatment, substance use history, and alcohol-related medical information
Examine and process subpoena requests that involve protected health information, particularly those concerning HIV/AIDS, mental health, substance use, and alcohol-related records. Ensure that all legal and confidentiality requirements are met before any information is disclosed
Conduct thorough chart reviews to identify inconsistencies, omissions, or discrepancies in patient records. Work to resolve these issues to maintain the accuracy and integrity of the health information system
Support overall patient safety through accurate data management

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management required
National certification required (RHIA or RHIT)
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
Demonstrates professionalism, tact, and diplomacy when interacting with: Hospital departments, Medical staff, External organizations
Exhibits: Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving abilities, High attention to detail
Proficient in PC applications, including: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, Adobe Acrobat
Equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training may be considered in place of the degree requirement

Preferred

Acute care hospital experience preferred
