LabCorp is seeking a Lab Assistant to join their team in Syracuse, NY, working in a high volume, production-based environment within an anatomic pathology lab. The role involves receiving and sorting lab specimens, data entry, and performing various administrative duties to support the Cytology team.

Responsibilities

Receive and sort lab specimens
Accession specimens (scan and/or data entry of specimen and patient information into laboratory information systems)
Answer incoming calls and triage accordingly
Troubleshoot specimen related issues
Will support the Cytology Team Leads by performing the non-screening, administrative functions
Prepare Monthly Performance reports for Cytologists- (counting and entering into a spreadsheet)
Check problem case trays (LCLS Not On File, Source Holds, Specimen in Hold Queue) and triage to Support Service Team Lead as needed for corrections throughout the day
Work the Cytology pendings
Call for service technical support
Post weekly schedules
Perform a variety of administrative/clerical duties, (i.e. typing, faxing, filing and emailing)
Maintain a clean and safe work environment
Other related duties as needed within the department
Follow all Standard Operating Procedures to ensure safety and quality standards

Handling biological specimensData entry skillsMedical/lab experienceAttention to detailCommunication skills

Required

High school diploma or equivalent
Comfortability with handling biological specimens
Ability to accurately identify specimens
Basic computer knowledge and data entry skills
High level of attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and multitask
Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment and meet established turn-around times
Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
Must pass a standardized color blindness test
Flexibility to work overtime as needed
