Public Works Maintenance Supervisor

Responsibilities

Directs skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled employees in the operation and maintenance of City facilities, property, equipment, and services related to streets, signage, sidewalks, rights-of-way, the urban forest, stormwater distribution systems, park land and park facilities, and playgrounds
Schedules, assigns, and monitors work activities of subordinate employees; sets division goals and priorities
Participates in safety training programs; conducts safety inspections and implements corrective actions as needed
Instructs personnel in proper equipment operation, maintenance procedures, and work methods related to streets, signage, sidewalks, rights-of-way, urban forestry, stormwater systems, and parks maintenance
Processes and prepares purchase orders, ensures complete work orders, and procures material and contractor pricing for required work
Prepares documentation required for annual FDEP NPDES reporting, Air General Permit testing/inspection, and other routine regulatory reporting for streets, stormwater, and parks operations
Reviews plans, specifications, and conducts progress inspections for in-house maintenance projects, Capital Improvement Projects, private development projects, permitted work, and contracted services
Assists in employee selection, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions; completes payroll and authorizes leave requests
Responds to and resolves citizen complaints and inquiries; carries a City-issued cell phone while on-duty and off-duty, answers after-hours calls, and dispatches on-call employees as required
Completes daily and periodic operational reports; maintains files and records
Assists in preparing the divisional budget including short-term and long-term project planning
Assists in planning and preparation of special events
Performs other duties as assigned

Required

Graduation from high school or GED
Three (3) years of supervisory experience in municipal infrastructure, parks, or Public Works; or an equivalent combination of training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
Possession of the following certifications, or ability to obtain within eighteen (18) months of hire: Florida Stormwater Association (FSA) Level 2 Certification, Sediment and Erosion Control Certification, Intermediate Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Certification, EPA Construction Site Inspector Certification, State of Florida Applicator's License for Public Use – ornamental and turf, National Playground Safety Inspector Certification
Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License with HazMat and Tanker endorsements
Knowledge of principles, standards, regulations, and practices related to streets maintenance, right-of-way maintenance, signage, roadway striping, sidewalk construction (including ADA requirements), urban forestry, stormwater system administration, parks maintenance, and playground safety
Knowledge of management and supervisory techniques, Public Works operations, budgeting, and computer applications including GIS
Ability to plan, prioritize, schedule, and supervise the work of others while managing resources efficiently
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City departments, subordinates, supervisors, public agencies, and vendors
Ability to review, analyze, and interpret data; develop and implement action plans
Skill in clear and effective communication, both written and oral
Knowledge of safety practices, safety equipment, and project/program management
