Responsibilities

Leads several Highway Engineering Technicians in the Northern Region Construction Laboratory, supporting over 30 projects annually across Alaska’s largest region
Works directly with geological, design, and construction professionals in the Arctic construction industry to ensure quality materials testing and documentation
Manages, calibrates, and maintains field and laboratory testing equipment while gaining technical and leadership experience with diverse civil construction materials from across Alaska
Independently leads the Northern Region Construction Laboratory and Field Laboratory Equipment Program, providing technical direction and training to technicians serving over 30 regional projects
Collaborates with geological, design, and construction experts to investigate testing discrepancies, improve procedures, and advance AASHTO accreditation for the laboratory
Oversees calibration, maintenance, and suitability evaluations of testing equipment, ensuring regional compliance and consistent quality assurance standards

Required

Current Alaska Driver's License
Bachelor's degree, or the equivalent with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from an institution accredited by ABET
One year of entry level engineering, architectural or land surveying experience as an Engineering Assistant 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere
A bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from an institution not accredited by ABET
An Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Land Surveyor-In-Training (LSIT) certificate issued by a state or the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors; or verification of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) examination
Five years of progressively responsible subprofessional engineering experience of which two years was as a Journey level Engineering Technician or Drafting Technician 3 with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere
Bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from an institution accredited by ABET
Two years of engineering, architectural or land surveying experience of which one year was at the working or intermediate trainee level
A bachelor's degree with a major in a branch of engineering from an institution not accredited by ABET
An Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate issued by a state or the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors; or verification of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination
Four years of any combination of ABET accredited postsecondary education in engineering, architecture, or land surveying and/or engineering, architectural or land surveying experience may substitute for the required degree
