Product Manager, Payments and Financial Systems

Responsibilities

Define and maintain a product roadmap that balances strategic initiatives, customer commitments, and operational priorities. Ensure the roadmap aligns with company goals, market trends, and user needs, translating strategy into actionable plans
Conduct customer research and competitive analysis to identify market opportunities, evolving customer expectations, and industry dynamics. Leverage insights to shape product strategy and anticipate future needs
Engage internal stakeholders (Product Owners, Engineers, Customer Success, and Marketing) and external stakeholders (clients, partners) to gather feedback, identify enhancement opportunities, facilitate the implementation of contract requirements, and ensure alignment with business goals
Define product initiatives and business cases that respond to customer problems and strategic goals. Provide direction to Product Owners and Business Analysts for epic and feature development, supporting prioritization and investment decisions
Partner with Product Owners to ensure backlog items align with product strategy. Offer strategic guidance during refinement, ensuring clarity and delivery of customer and business value
Act as the primary liaison for third-party vendors supporting contractual product needs. Manage vendor relationships, define scope of work, track performance, and ensure compliance with legal, finance, and procurement standards
Identify partnership opportunities that drive innovation, reduce cost, or enhance value delivery. Stay informed on emerging technologies and evolving vendor ecosystems
Own the vision, performance, and lifecycle of a defined product portfolio. Ensure product investments align with company strategy and deliver measurable value, balancing short-term wins with long-term growth. Oversee the portfolio-level balance of customer contract commitments, internally driven initiatives, and critical technical priorities—including technical debt, security, and compliance—to optimize business outcomes and ensure sustainable product health
Partner with business development teams to support RFP responses and strategic proposals. Participate in product demonstrations and articulate product value to prospects and partners
Serve as a product champion across the organization and with clients. Lead internal and external product demonstrations, training sessions, and workshops to build product understanding and adoption
Facilitate regular planning and prioritization sessions with customers to understand evolving needs, manage expectations, and ensure roadmap relevance. Balance customer priorities with internal initiatives, technical needs, and strategic objectives, integrating these inputs into a comprehensive, actionable product plan
May have people management direct report responsibilities which would include, providing day-to-day management, coaching, and performance feedback. This would include performance evaluations and holding regular 1:1s with direct reports

100% Remote - Must reside in the US full time
A strategic mindset with the ability to balance short-term delivery with long-term vision and innovation
Demonstrated proficiency with payment and transaction software
Experience building and maintaining financial systems (general ledger or sub-ledger) vs. just experience working with payment processors and payment gateways
Prior software development experience within financial systems to influence, review, and challenge technical designs
Experience building and maintaining financial systems subject to PCI and SOX compliance regulations
Experience working in Product Management role within AGILE or SCRUM framework
Proven resilience and adaptability when managing shifting priorities, feedback, or agency demands
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build networks, foster alignment, and influence across teams
Passion for customer value and public service, consistently advocating for end-user and client outcomes
Technical fluency and business acumen support cross-functional problem solving and backlog management
Proven ability to define and execute product strategies that align with customer needs and business goals
Expertise in managing product roadmaps, prioritizing backlogs, and making data-informed decisions
Comfort working directly with customers to gather insights, validate solutions, and build trusted relationships
3–4 years of direct product management experience
Extensive experience in the fintech space, specifically with payment transaction software
Demonstrated ability to manage a feature set or product area independently with minimal oversight
Proficient in writing epics and user stories, prioritizing backlogs, and working closely with engineering and design teams
Experience working with multiple stakeholders to gather input, define scope, and make tradeoff decisions
Comfortable using product analytics and customer insights to influence roadmap decisions
Solid understanding of product-market fit, customer journeys, and release planning
