Director of Finance
Grasslands Club is seeking a Director of Finance to oversee all financial operations and ensure the club's financial health and stability. The role involves managing budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and compliance while providing strategic financial insights to support the club's objectives.

Responsibilities
Administering all financial activities of the Club; implementing and monitoring effective controls and procedures and maintaining accurate records analyzing and summarizing general ledger accounts
Demonstrates a high degree of administrative ability, especially in terms of problem solving and decision making
Consistently uses reasonable judgment in all aspects of the job, including the handling of challenging situations, coaching staff effectively, and assisting employees with setting priorities
Financial Planning & Analysis: Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and long-range financial plans. Conduct variance analysis and provide actionable insights to department heads and the General Manager
Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Present financial results and key performance indicators to the General Manager and Board of Directors
Cash Management: Oversee all cash flow activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. Manage banking relationships and ensure optimal cash utilization
Internal Controls & Compliance: Establish and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard club assets. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local financial regulations and tax requirements
Payroll & Benefits: Supervise payroll processing and ensure accurate and timely payment of employee wages and benefits
Audit Management: Coordinate and manage external audits, ensuring all necessary documentation is provided and findings are addressed
Capital Expenditures: Assist in the evaluation and financial justification of capital expenditure projects
Membership & Dues: Work closely with the membership department on billing, collections, and analysis of membership revenue
Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team
Strategic Support: Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making by the General Manager and Board
Financial Strategy & Leadership: Develop and implement the club's financial strategy. Provide strategic recommendations to the club's board and executive team. Align financial management with the club's long-term goals and mission. Overseeing the preparation of the Club’s annual budgets and long-term financial forecasts. Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making. Identify financial trends, risks, and opportunities. Present financial reports and insights to the board and committees. Collaborate with department heads for cross-functional financial alignment. Communicate financial health and strategies to key stakeholders. Collaborate with the General Manager and Board of Directors on financial strategy and long-term financial planning. Provide financial insights for capital projects, renovations, and major expenditures. Assist in membership pricing models and fee structures. Prepare reports for the Finance Committee and Board meetings. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and recommend operational improvements
Accounting & Reporting: Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements. Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Oversee the implementation of effective financial controls and reporting systems. Monitor membership dues, initiation fees, and other revenue streams. Oversee cost control measures to optimize profitability. Ensure financial sustainability through effective pricing models. Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports. Develop and manage the club's financial forecasts. Conduct variance analysis and provide financial insights to the General Manager and Club ownership. Maintain general ledger integrity and oversee account reconciliation processes
Cash Management & Liquidity: Manage cash flow and liquidity to ensure the club’s financial stability. Develop cash management strategies and investment policies. Monitor working capital and reserve funds. Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processes. Oversee revenue collection, including membership dues, event billing, and other income sources. Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard club assets. Ensure timely bank reconciliations and cash management practices
Risk Management & Compliance: Protect Club’s Assets through strong Internal Control policies and procedures. Ensure the club complies with all financial regulations and tax obligations. Conduct internal audits and work with external auditors. Implement risk management policies and ensure proper insurance coverage
Capital Management & Investments: Oversee capital expenditure planning and funding. Manage capital improvement projects and related financing. Optimize the club's investment portfolio for growth and security
Technology & Systems Management: Manage financial software systems. Ensure data integrity and cybersecurity within financial operations. Oversee the use of financial software systems (Clubessential, Beanworks etc.). Ensure financial data security and proper system backups
Team Leadership & Development: Lead and develop the finance and accounting team. Foster a culture of financial accountability and transparency. Provide training on financial best practices across departments. Supervise and train accounting staff, ensuring adherence to best practices. Work closely with department heads to ensure proper financial procedures across club operations
Governance & Ethics: Uphold ethical financial practices and club governance policies. Serve as a financial advisor for board committees (e.g., finance, audit). Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws. Prepare for and manage external audits and reviews. Maintain records for tax filings, including payroll taxes, sales taxes, and property taxes
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in finance or accounting, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role
Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles
Proficiency in financial software and advanced Excel skills
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively present financial information to diverse audiences
High level of integrity and ethical conduct
Preferred
CPA or MBA
Experience in the hospitality or private club industry
