Purchasing Agent (Raw Material Focus)

They are seeking a highly motivated Purchasing Agent with experience in raw material procurement, particularly in the aerospace and defense sectors, to manage supplier relationships and support production requirements.

Responsibilities

Serve as the primary point of contact for suppliers through phone, email, and portals
Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships to support long-term strategic sourcing
Enter purchase orders into the ERP system and issue them to suppliers to support production requirements
Monitor purchase order commitments and proactively follow up with suppliers on delivery and scheduling
Analyze supply and demand requirements to support production schedules and customer needs
Collaborate with Sales and Account Management on purchased items for quotes and customer orders
Partner with cross-functional teams (quality, engineering, accounting, operations) to resolve supplier-related issues
Compile and present purchasing data, metrics, and reports to management as required
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in purchasing and supply chain processes

Required

Direct experience in raw material procurement, particularly within aerospace & defense, or other precision-manufacturing industries
Focus on sourcing metals such as aluminum, stainless steel, carbon steel, and titanium (including sheet, plate, tube, extrusion, and coil forms)
Experience with thermoplastic carbon composite materials (unidirectional and laminates)
Serve as the primary point of contact for suppliers through phone, email, and portals
Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships to support long-term strategic sourcing
Enter purchase orders into the ERP system and issue them to suppliers to support production requirements
Monitor purchase order commitments and proactively follow up with suppliers on delivery and scheduling
Analyze supply and demand requirements to support production schedules and customer needs

Ability to read and interpret technical procedures, specifications, and business documents
Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems, Microsoft Excel, Word, and database tools; basic understanding of forecasting and planning
Proactive approach to resolving supplier quality, delivery, or cost issues
Accuracy in data entry, order management, and supplier communications

Preferred

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in operations, materials management, business, or a related field
Prior experience in a purchasing/procurement/buyer role with direct responsibility for raw materials
Familiarity with grades and forms of metals and exposure to thermoplastic carbon composite materials
