Bioinformatics Data Scientist (Part-Time)
University of Nebraska Medical Center is seeking a Bioinformatics Data Scientist to support bioinformatics research and analysis workflows. The role involves coordinating activities, managing servers and databases, and assisting in project development and analysis.

Responsibilities
Position requires broad-based experience in bioinformatics research, analysis workflows and hardware and software support
The Bioinformatics Scientist works closely with the BSBC Director and interacts routinely with UNMC investigators, other scientists, graduate students, software and hardware industry representatives, service technicians, as well as key academic and industry collaborators to assist stakeholders in all stages of projects, including initial consultation, design, development, and analyses performed by the BSBC facility
This person coordinates the activities of core staff, manages Windows and Linux servers, databases and core websites, carries out necessary development work, helps organize workshops, participates in billing/budget operations, and presents BSBC core project development and core progress in campus-wide seminars
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree
Computer Science, Computational Chemistry, Bioinformatics, or related Quantitative/Biomedical discipline
2 years
Experience with Computational Chemistry, in silico drug screening, Bioinformatics data analysis, data management, system administration, pipeline design
General experience with the Linux/Gnu operating system and utilities
General experience with scripting or compiled programming languages (e.g., BASH shell scripting, Python, Perl, Ruby, Java, Mono.)
Skilled with HPC administration, experience with job scheduling
DNA and protein sequence alignment software (e.g., BLA ST, MUMMER); scientific and statistical software (e.g., MATLAB, R); software for next-generation sequencing {NGS) data management and analysis
Preferred
Doctoral degree or equivalent
Virtual screening of drug compound libraries using Schrodinger software suite, Scientific data analysis, data management, or related software development experience
Experience working with NGS data and other multi-omics data
Teaching or mentoring experience is highly desirable
DNA and protein sequence alignment software (e.g., BLA ST, MUMMER); scientific and statistical software (e.g., MATLAB, R); software for next-generation sequencing {NGS) data management and analysis
Laboratory Information Management Systems {LIMS); Eclipse IDE; SG E, PBS or other batch job schedulers; Relational Database Management Systems {RDBMS) and SQL programming; Message Passing Interface {MPI) programming; CUDA/OpenCL/G PU programming; use of the MapReduce/Hadoop framework
The knowledge of or ability to quickly become familiar with and productive in any of a variety of programming languages and bioinformatic software applications in either conventional (data center), high-performance computing {HPC), or cloud computing environments
