CSRR-2025-36 Environmental Specialist 3 (Internal Posting)
NJ Department of Environmental Protection is seeking an Environmental Specialist 3 to lead and supervise technical or scientific work related to environmental enforcement and control. The role involves conducting investigations, analyzing environmental impacts, and providing support for remediation cases.

Responsibilities
Under the general supervision of a supervisory official in a state department or agency takes the lead or may supervise, organize and assign technical or scientific work, including field and office studies, surveys, inspections or investigations associated with the enforcement of laws and/or regulations and environmental review and control work, organizes and makes tests and reports to assess Environmental impacts to include the physical, natural, and/or human environment and investigates environmental complaints concerning projects; conducts or supervises the processing of contract, grant and/or loan applications; does related work as required
Analyze complex owner & operational histories for sites requiring remediation and write the results including text and maps/figures
Provide research and litigation support for SRP cases where remediation is lacking and required
Understand the laws, regulations and guidance related to site remediation
Understand the technical and administrative aspects to site remediation
Use NJEMS and GIS as part of data management and research
Qualification
Required
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in one of the Physical Sciences, Environmental Sciences/Studies, Chemical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Environmental Planning, Physical Geography or in Civil Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Mining Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Bio-resource Engineering
Three (3) years of experience in environmental control work including field investigations, inspection, and preparing reports on the environment or the preparation or review of Environmental Impact Statements
A Master's degree in one of the fields specified above may be substituted for one (1) year of the above experience
All U.S. degrees and transcripts must be from an accredited college or university. All foreign degrees and transcripts must be evaluated for accreditation by a recognized evaluation service by the closing date of this posting
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position
Selected candidates must be authorized to work in the United States per the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship, and Immigration Services regulations
