Bridge Asset Management Engineer - Bridge Division

The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Engineer to join their Bridge Division. The role involves performing transportation engineering work and data analysis utilizing bridge asset management software, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, and collaborating with various stakeholders.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Answers technical and policy questions related to bridge inspection and maintains bridge inspection data; analyzes data and provides summaries
Ensures compliance with National Bridge Inspection Standards
Makes presentations and represents TxDOT
Performs data collection, evaluation, analyses, studies, investigations, forecasts and/or plan development associated with facility issues
Performs engineering analysis of statewide Bridge conditions and develops reports on Bridge conditions
Recommends bridge replacement, bridge rehabilitation and repair of damaged bridges
Represents the district/division at various meetings
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
Assists districts with bridge inspection-related matters
Develops, recommends, and implements modifications as necessary for continual improvement to existing program of responsibility
Develops standards in conjunction with TxDOT divisions and districts and the Federal Highway Administration and ensures compliance with National Bridge Inspection Standards
Performs data collection, evaluations, analyses, studies, inspections, forecasts, assessments, and/or plan development
Trains engineering staff

Required

Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS
4 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis
5 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis
6 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis
Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle
Licensed Prof Engineer
Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment
Considerable knowledge of statistical analysis methodologies and reporting procedures
Considerable knowledge of applicable governmental laws, rules and regulations specific to area of responsibility for safeguarding information and information technology related systems
Considerable knowledge of fatigue and fracture mechanics
Considerable knowledge of bridge inspection and appraisal methods and procedures
Proficient skill in applying engineering principles, practices and methods in job responsibilities
Proficient skill in analyzing and organizing business and technical data
Proficient skill in using computers and applicable programs, applications, and systems
Some skill in the use of applicable programming languages
Exercises logic and reasoning to define problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; makes decisions that support business objectives and goals
