Industrial Control Center Technologist (Blast Furnace Automation)
United States Steel Corporation is a leader in steelmaking, and they are seeking an Industrial Control Center Technologist to oversee blast furnace operations and ensure stable production. The role involves troubleshooting PLC ladder logic, maintaining communication systems, and diagnosing issues at a component level.

Responsibilities
Oversee furnace operations remotely, including hoisting/charging and stove management, to keep production stable and safe
Partner with field technicians to interpret and troubleshoot PLC ladder logic, implement logic changes, and accurately mark revisions on blueprints
Interface with multiple systems and platforms while ensuring continuous, reliable network communication
Diagnose issues down to processor and board-level components; perform precision soldering when needed
Terminate and test fiber-optic communication cabling for robust connectivity
Maintain and calibrate scales, scale displays, and sonar/radar level detection equipment
Apply combustion fundamentals (e.g., oxygen/fuel ratio) to optimize operations
Work confidently with AC/DC drives and motor starters; Allen‑Bradley and GE Fanuc PLCs; and Bristol/Emerson Ovation/Avton drive systems
Qualification
Required
2-year technical degree in electronics, electrical engineering, or computer-related field (required)
1–3 years of experience in a plant manufacturing environment in a similar controls/automation role (required)
Must pass the written Command Center test
Hands-on proficiency with voltmeters, oscilloscopes, and standard hand tools (including a soldering gun)
Comfort with PLC troubleshooting, PLC wiring, and blueprint reading
