Sr. Accountant/Auditor
The County of Orange is dedicated to ensuring accountability over public spending and transparency of taxpayer dollars. The Senior Accountant/Auditor will conduct various accounting and auditing duties, including financial reporting and audits, while supervising and planning work assigned to them.

Responsibilities
Perform accounting/auditing duties including accounts payable, payroll, claims, financial reporting, budget, general accounting, capital assets, audit, and/or cost accounting
Perform financial and/or operational audits of County departments, districts, outside contractors, or lessees
Prepare audit reports with constructive recommendations based upon findings
Exercise a considerable degree of independent judgement in supervising and planning work assigned to them
Receive only general guidance concerning responsibilities
Qualification
Required
One (1) year of working experience as an Accountant/Auditor II with the County of Orange
Graduated with a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or Public Administration, Economics, or a related specialized field to have included twenty-four (24) semester or equivalent quarter units in elementary, intermediate, advanced accounting, auditing, cost accounting, and governmental accounting courses
Two (2) years of professional accounting and/or auditing experience
Extensive knowledge and/or experience in accounting and auditing principles and terminology as they apply to the governmental accounting cycle, accounting records, classification of accounts, cost accounting, fund accounting, budget process, appropriation, and encumbrance control, accounting for inventory, preparation of financial statements and bank reconciliations
Experience with financial statements, data analysis, and/or an understanding of Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS)
Completing complex auditing tasks
Preparing and presenting complex reports in an appropriate format to various levels of staff including management and executives
Assessing and analyzing complex and challenging issues associated with changes to accounting or auditing practices and communicate information and actions needed in a timely and responsive manner
Independently conduct research and accurately interpret relevant data to formulate recommendations for modifying program policies, procedures, and requirements
Working in a fast-paced environment while handling and prioritizing multiple projects and meeting deadlines with an accurate and complete work product
Analyzing and supporting planning efforts for identifying future resource needs and business process improvements
Supervising, training, assigning work to staff, monitor activities, and evaluate staff performance
Ability to provide clear and concise instructions to staff and others to ensure operational compliance
Leading and reviewing the work of team members on multiple projects
Leading a high performance and forward-focused team of accounting professionals by inspiring, motivating, and empowering them to achieve agency goals and performance measures
Coaching and inspiring peers and subordinates to be results-oriented and manage day-to-day issues in support of maintaining a productive, creative, flexible, and innovative work environment
Taking responsibility for making decisions fairly and consistently that fosters a supportive working environment for maintaining the integrity of agency operations and delivering responsive and quality services
Working effectively with various levels of the organization, including staff, supervisors, and upper-level management
Demonstrating strong verbal and written communication skills; writing with excellent grammar skills and articulating ideas in an organized and effective manner
Communicating technical and complex information clearly and concisely
Listening effectively to others and shares technical knowledge with others
Preferred
A valid Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), and/or Certified Internal Systems Auditor (CISA) certification is highly desired but not required
