Fish and Wildlife Technician 1
The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation is focused on environmental protection and management. They are seeking a Fish and Wildlife Technician 1 to sample anadromous fish species, process fish in both field and laboratory settings, and maintain sampling equipment.

Responsibilities
Sample for anadromous fish species including Atlantic sturgeon, Striped bass, American shad, river herring, and American eel in the Hudson River
Process fish in field setting (e.g. length, weight, scale samples, tagging) and laboratory
Enter and check data required for coast wide fisheries management
Maintain instruments and gear for fish sampling
Sampling involves using large nets, seines and electrofishing, and requires strenuous pulling, ability to lift 50 lbs, and maneuverability in/out of boats and around aquatic environments
Qualification
Required
30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography
Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds
Preferred
Experience with data entry, fish handling, and equipment maintenance
Background in marine fisheries
Familiarity with large fishing gears
Outboard boat operation
Fish ID/specimen preparation
NYS boating certificate is helpful but not necessary, as certification training can be provided
