Responsibilities

Identify and map short line, regional, and industrial rail operations within the assigned territory
Develop a territory coverage plan prioritizing infrastructure, volumes, and operational needs
Drive new business through targeted outreach, in-person visits, and industry networking
Maintain an active, well-documented pipeline with clear progression steps
Engage with Class I’s to help offset gaps in scheduled moves and reduce customer demurrage
Conduct on-site evaluations to understand car movement needs and operational challenges
Present equipment capabilities and recommend the correct solution based on track conditions and load requirements
Lead customer demonstrations ensuring safety and operational compliance
Manage full sales cycle from initial engagement through close and handoff
Serve as the subject matter expert for rail car movement equipment and applications
Quantify customer value related to labor reduction, safety improvement, and operational efficiency
Monitor competitive offerings and position solutions accordingly
Provide feedback to management on equipment improvements to gain larger market share
Travel approximately 50% to customer sites, association events, trade shows, and rail facilities
Represent the company professionally within short line and rail association communities
Maintain accurate CRM updates, forecasting, and activity logs
Collaborate with internal teams to align lead times, pricing, and customer requirements
Provide customer feedback to support product development

Required

7+ years of rail industry experience (short line, Class II/III, switching, industrial rail, or locomotive services)
Demonstrated success in technical sales and capital equipment sales
Strong understanding of rail operations, track infrastructure, and safe car movement
Ability to conduct field assessments and explain technical concepts clearly
Willingness to travel frequently; valid driver's license
Established network within the short line and regional rail industry
Experience selling rail equipment or motive power solutions

Preferred

Familiarity with FRA, OSHA, and relevant rail safety standards
Experience with Sales Force and structured sales processes
