Training and Development Asst

Responsibilities

Performs entry-level training work
Maintains refresher training records and compiles reports on training programs
Maintains student registrations and coordinates training locations for refresher and specialty classes
Presents courses during new employee orientation and refresher sessions to ensure compliance with minimum training requirements and competency on the job
Assists in development of curriculum and preparation of other training materials related to staff training and development
Attends Work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned
Conducts facility training including new employee orientation, refresher training, and continuing education using approved training curriculum and procedures, audiovisual equipment, and practice models
Assists by teaching SUR/UKERU, CPR, ANE, and Van Driving
Performs complex file management
Manages incoming paperwork, filing, copying, and storage
Will maintain employee training record data, including but not limited to: posting of completed training into PeopleSoft Training Information Management System (TIMS), running training data reports, entering employee training assignments and maintaining employee training files
Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation

Required

Experience working with persons with developmental disabilities
Knowledge of training procedures and techniques; of adult education principles, practices, and techniques; of the group process, group dynamics, and interpersonal relations; of instructional and/or curriculum design; and of program areas to be presented
Demonstration of excellent interpersonal and communication skills, orally and in writing
Ability to work flexible schedule- primary schedule 8AM-5PM, also may work nights, weekends, or additional time
Ability to communicate with courtesy, professionalism, and compassion
Ability to teach adults
Ability to handle multiple projects
Ability to teach and demonstrate skills related to CPR, SUR, Ukeru, Lifting, etc
Ability to use Windows based programs such as Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc
Ability to work both within a team environment and independently
Ability to squat, bend, stoop, kneel and stand
Ability to lift and carry at least 15 lbs
Ability to formulate learning objectives; to create and evaluate training objectives, requirements and effective delivery; and to communicate effectively; and to assess training
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
Skill in creating, editing and replicating video productions
Skill in the development of training materials, and policies/procedures
Skill in operating basic office equipment, assembling and managing audio-visual accessories and equipment
Skill in spreadsheets and databases
Skill and ability to provide effective and interesting instruction to large groups and in one-to-one situations
Must possess valid Texas driver's license
Experience in training work
Experience in file management
Experience in using MS Office programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook etc
High School diploma or equivalent
Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct and HHS List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE)
Males between the ages of 18 – 25 must be registered with the Selective Service
All State Supported Living Center Employees are subject to Random Drug Testing
Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position
The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours
Must be willing to work weekends and holidays
All applicants must be at least 18 years of age to be considered for employment at a state-operated facility

Preferred

Prefer experience working directly with a developmentally disabled population
Prefer experience as a platform trainer or teaching experience, curriculum development
Preference to certified instructors
