JCS Solutions LLC (JCS) is seeking a Scientific Support Specialist to support our federal client. The Scientific Support Specialist provides technical assistance to researchers and staff by maintaining and troubleshooting desktop systems across Windows, macOS, and Linux environments to support NICHD's research mission.

Responsibilities

Provide Tier 2/Tier 3 support for scientific computing environments, including Windows, Mac, and Linux desktop environments
Troubleshoot hardware, operating system, and application issues in a research environment
Support installation and updates of scientific software packages (e.g., R, Python, MATLAB)
Assist with secure data transfers and ensure compliance with NIH security standards
Provide user training and documentation for common scientific computing tasks
Collaborate with IT teams to escalate complex issues and maintain system integrity

Required

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
5+ years of experience supporting scientific computing environments
Strong knowledge of Windows, macOS, and Linux troubleshooting
Proficiency in Linux/Unix administration and scripting (Bash, Python)
Familiarity with scientific software installation and configuration
Understanding of NIH security and compliance requirements
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills

Preferred

Relevant industry certifications like: MCSA, A+, ITIL Foundation, ACSP, ACIT, Linux+, Security+, etc
Familiarity with remote management tools like SCCM and Jamf
Basic scripting knowledge (PowerShell, Bash, etc.)
Strong documentation and training capabilities
