Youth Development Director - Heinrich

The Youth Development Director is responsible for developing, organizing, implementing, and overseeing high-quality child-care programs, ensuring alignment with YMCA mission and community needs.

Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Oversight: Manages, directs, and coordinates all Youth & Family programs at the branch level, ensuring alignment with YMCA mission, strategic priorities, and community needs
Program Quality & Continuous Improvement: Conducts program quality assessments, identifies strengths and areas for improvement, determines corrective actions, and establishes measurable goals in direct response. Serves as a key decision-maker regarding programs to start, stop, sustain, or enhance at the branch level
Program Development & Growth: Designs, launches, and expands programs, activities, and revenue streams in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Determines the scope, structure, timing, location, and delivery model of new and existing programming
Staff Leadership & Talent Development: Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, supervises, and evaluates seasonal and part-time staff. Develops staff through coaching, performance management, and professional development. Implements strategies to motivate staff, nurture high performers, and lead departmental succession planning
Budget & Financial Management: Develops, manages, and controls departmental budgets. Ensures programs operate within approved budgets, program fees are accurately collected, and administrative financial duties are completed, including budget tracking, purchase orders, payroll review, and forecasting
Compliance, Risk Management & Safety: Ensures compliance with all state, local, and YMCA regulations related to program operations, equipment, and facilities. Upholds YMCA program standards and ensures safety and emergency procedures are consistently followed. Plans and facilitates audits and drills, leads audit debriefs, coaches staff on corrective actions, and maintains up-to-date policies and procedures
Policy & Systems Implementation: Updates, communicates, and implements policy, procedural, and system changes to strengthen program safety, quality, consistency, and operational efficiency
Community & Partnership Development: Builds and maintains strong relationships with community partners, schools, families, and stakeholders. Assesses opportunities for new partnerships and provides strategic recommendations to the Branch Executive Director
Administrative & Documentation Management: Maintains accurate program records, staff files, and departmental documentation, ensuring all certifications, licenses, and compliance records are current. Meets deadlines, manages correspondence professionally, and completes administrative responsibilities as required
Camp & Seasonal Program Leadership: Plans, organizes, and oversees branch-level summer camp and seasonal programs, including seasonal hiring, onboarding, staff training, and program delivery
Behavior Management & Family Engagement: Serves as the primary point of contact for parent and child de-escalation conversations and behavior intervention, utilizing trauma-informed and developmentally appropriate behavior management strategies. Resolves concerns calmly, professionally, and effectively
Industry Knowledge & Strategic Input: Maintains current knowledge of youth development best practices and industry trends. Evaluates Youth Development business practices and provides data-informed feedback and recommendations for continuous improvement to the Branch Executive Director
Training & Certification Leadership: Serves as a certified American Red Cross CPRO (CPR, First Aid, AED) Instructor, responsible for facilitating required safety trainings, supporting staff certification compliance, and modeling YMCA safety standards
Operational Support & Schedule Flexibility: Performs other duties as assigned, including stepping in to support frontline programs as needed. Maintains a flexible schedule with the ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and special events as required
Abuse Risk Management Functions: Follows employees and volunteers screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk. Provides employees and volunteers with on-going supervision and training related to abuse risk. Provides employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with youth. Requires employees and volunteers to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the organization’s progressive disciplinary procedures. Responds seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors. Follows mandated reporting requirements. Communicates to all employees and volunteers the organization’s commitment to protect their consumers from abuse. Reports essential abuse risk management information to their supervisor, executive director, or human resources
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience
Minimum of 2 years of experience in child/youth development related field
Minimum of 2 years of experience in a role with administrative responsibilities
Minimum of 2 years of experience supervising staff with a proven track record of developing rising stars for advancement
Highly skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Ability to think strategically and use evidence-based principles to grow programs and drive results
Ability to work collaboratively across levels disciplines
Minimum age of 21
Within 30 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, CPR, First Aid, AED, and O2 certifications
Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
