District Sign Technician I, II, III, or IV
The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking District Sign Technicians at various levels to perform transportation-related work involving the installation, repair, and maintenance of traffic signs and related equipment. The role includes assisting maintenance crews, managing inventory, and ensuring compliance with traffic control standards.
Government Administration
Responsibilities
Assists transportation maintenance crews with maintenance-related work as required; may respond to assist with emergency situations/conditions
Measures and calculates amount of materials needed
Mixes and places concrete for sign support foundations; moves cement bags and other items related to these duties
Operates a boom and bucket truck and/or specialized sign truck to install roadway signs
Performs and maintains inventory of signs
Repairs and installs signs, supports, foundations and delineators in accordance with Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and other departmental guidance
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
Inspects roadways to identify sign and delineator deficiencies and recommend repairs
Coordinates and conducts nighttime luminaire inspections to ensure reflectivity of signs, delineators, stripping, and retroreflective pavement markers (RPMs)
Qualification
Required
Must have a Class 'A' Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or have obtained a Class 'A' CDL, within 120 calendar days from date of employment
Commercial Driver's License
1 YEAR Sign installation and/or repair, roadway maintenance, construction, transportation engineering support, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience
2 YEARS in Sign installation and/or repair, roadway maintenance, construction, transportation engineering support, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience
5 YEARS in sign installation and/or repair, roadway maintenance, construction, transportation engineering support, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience
This job has been identified as physically demanding and will require a pre-employment physical
Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions
Must be able to report for duty within XX minutes of notification on a 24-hour basis to respond to emergency situations
