The role involves analyzing drawings and specifications to develop competitive project estimates while collaborating with various departments to ensure project alignment.
Construction
Responsibilities
Analyze construction drawings, specifications, and addenda for HVAC scope and prepare comprehensive cost estimates
Solicit and evaluate vendor/supplier pricing and material takeoffs
Prepare proposals, budgets, and bid documentation for internal and external use
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and sales staff to ensure alignment on project scope and design intent
Track and update historical cost data for future use and continuous improvement
Assist in value engineering and identifying cost-saving alternatives
Qualification
Required
3+ years of experience in HVAC estimating
Proficiency in reading mechanical plans, specifications, and related construction documents
Strong working knowledge of HVAC materials, equipment, and labor
Experience using estimating software (e.g., Quick Bid, Bluebeam, Excel, or equivalent tools)
High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Excellent verbal and written communication
Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities
Experience estimating in commercial, institutional, or industrial HVAC environments
Familiarity with local competitors such as Michigan Air Products or similar
Associates or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent field experience)
