Laboratory Manager

Responsibilities
Understand facility operations and be familiar with which regulations and permit conditions drive the analytical requirements of the facility, both in-house and third-party
Communicate and confirm each lab and lab pack technician’s understanding of their role in facility operations and compliance with permit conditions and regulations
Perform QA/QC review on data generated by laboratory technicians for incoming waste verification samples, process/treatability samples, and samples representing outbound wastes
Perform QA/QC review on results entered into computer database by laboratory technicians
Communicate with other departments within our company either through email or cell phone
Approve lab packs coming into our facility
Oversee notification to Facility Management of off specification drums and recommended resolution
Maintain the highest standards at all times, assuring accuracy of results
Review lab equipment maintenance logs including calibration schedules as applicable
Make suggestions on methods to improve laboratory and lab pack flow and quality to Facility Manager
Operate lab in a safe and efficient manner
Continually grow knowledge of laboratory and lab pack information and expertise
Properly log and perform all checks, standards and calibrations
Participate in mandatory pre-shift and post-shift safety and operational meetings detailing tasks to be completed on shift
Perform other reasonably related tasks as assigned by management
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in chemistry, or related Science
Two plus years of prior laboratory experience
At least 21 years of age
Ability to repeatedly lift and carry up to 50 lbs
Ability to stand, bend, and walk for extended periods of time
Willing and able to wear company-provided personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hat, eye protection, foot protection, Tyvek coveralls, and respirator (as needed)
Able to pass a company physical, drug test, and background check
Knowledge of hazardous materials and OSHA regulation
Willingness and ability to work safely in a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving vehicles, electrical current, and exposure to chemicals
Physically agile and dexterous and undeterred by adverse climatic conditions
Supervisory experience
Ability to manage/prioritize several tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Power Point
Preferred
40-hour HAZWOPER training
Experience with basic lab techniques and calculations
Filling out lab pack inventory sheets
Knowledge of Gas Chromatography and/or ICP-OES
Knowledge of chemical compatibilities
