Senior Tax Manager
Paro is seeking a Senior Tax Manager who is ready to take on firm-level responsibility and transition into a Partner role. The Senior Tax Manager will oversee complex tax engagements, guide strategic tax planning, and lead the tax team while managing the firm's operations and client portfolio.
Responsibilities
Lead the review of highly complex Individual (1040), Corporate (1120), S Corporation (1120S), Partnership (1065), Non-Profit (990), and Trust/Estate (1041) filings
Manage multistate, consolidated, apportionment, and nexus-related filings
Serve as the firm’s senior technical reviewer and escalation point for complex or high-risk tax matters
Research, interpret, and document tax law changes and develop firm-wide guidance
Lead year-round tax planning engagements, cash flow strategies, and entity structure evaluations
Act as the primary advisor for high-value clients, providing forward-looking, consultative guidance
Present tax strategies, planning recommendations, and business insights to executive-level clients
Support business development efforts, including scoping, proposal creation, and client onboarding
Own day-to-day management of the tax practice, including workflow monitoring, quality control, and staff utilization
Oversee engagement economics, realization rates, budgeting, and forecasting
Lead internal initiatives to improve processes, technology adoption, and client experience
Collaborate with the partners on long-term strategic planning, service-line expansion, and organizational growth
Supervise, mentor, and train the tax team, including offshore staff, seniors, and preparers
Deliver technical training, enforce review standards, and build a culture of accountability and excellence
Guide career development and participate in performance evaluations, hiring decisions, and staffing plans
Oversee monthly financial close activities and ensure delivery of accurate client financial statements
Review financial analyses, dashboards, forecasts, and management reporting packages
Provide financial insights that support client decision-making, including modeling and ROI analysis
Oversee accuracy and compliance of payroll processing across multiple states
Coordinate with payroll providers (Gusto, ADP, Paychex, etc.) to resolve discrepancies and ensure proper withholding and classification
Qualification
Required
Active CPA license (required)
6+ years of progressive experience in public accounting or tax advisory, including significant review experience
Proven ability to manage a book of business, nurture client relationships, and serve as the primary advisor
Strong leadership skills with experience managing both onshore and offshore teams
Advanced technical knowledge of federal and multistate tax law
Proficiency with Lacerte, CCH Axcess, ProConnect, Drake, or similar tax software
Experience with QuickBooks Online/Desktop, Xero, and cloud collaboration tools (Karbon preferred)
Demonstrated ability to manage firm operations, improve processes, and drive team performance
Entrepreneurial mindset with interest in future equity/partnership
