The City of Richmond is seeking a highly qualified candidate to fill the position of Senior Electrician in the Facilities Management Division. The role involves providing skilled electrical maintenance, installing and repairing electrical systems, and leading less experienced electricians while ensuring the safety and efficiency of electrical operations.

Responsibilities

Provides maintenance and repairs to City electrical systems and equipment, including making decisions on scheduling/queuing
Ensures proper operation of electrical systems by installing and maintaining electrical equipment such as circuits, lighting, motors, conduits, wiring, high voltage switch gears, telemetering equipment, etc
Perform inspections of fire alarms and sprinkler equipment
Performs routine maintenance checks, including preventative maintenance work
Maintain, test, and troubleshoot equipment; reading blueprints, schematics, sketches, and code books; and designing electrical systems for power and lighting
Performs routine administrative duties such as putting in requests for and obtaining pricing for parts, equipment, and materials; updating and enter information into the database management system; and maintaining records of stated/finished work orders
Assist other trades in performing tasks such as lock-out and tag-out of equipment for safety and participating in training and development activities to stay current on knowledge and issues, etc
Other duties as assigned

Required

High School Diploma or GED
Formal training in electrical functions
Six years of electrician experience
An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification
Valid current Journeyman Electrician certification
Valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record and a valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver's License within 30 days of hire
Some assignments may require a valid Commonwealth of Virginia Commercial Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record
Knowledge of The National Electrical Code (NFPA 70)
Knowledge of electrical theory including Kerchef's law, Ohms law, etc
Knowledge of utility plant operations, including processes for operating water purification plant
Knowledge of electrical and mechanical equipment/systems, including gear boxes, motors, air compressors, pumps, as well as equipment used at water purification plants and water pumping stations
Extensive knowledge of occupational hazards and safety procedures
In-depth knowledge of the CMMS system or similar system used to log work tasks, order parts and materials, etc
Knowledge of mathematics, including geometric and algebraic formulas
Computer Proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite
Manual dexterity in using hands and electrical tools
Critical thinking and analytical skills
Customer Service skills
Reading and listening comprehension skills
Strong organizational and time management skills
Effective oral and written communication skills
Reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and schematics
Troubleshooting electrical systems and their components to ensure safe and proper operations
Performing mathematical calculations, including algebraic and geometric operations used in the electrical field
Ability to read, comprehend, and communicate written and oral instructions, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, etc
Ability to address problems involving a few concrete variables in non-standardized situations using reasoning
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Ability to understand and manipulate formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc
Ability to apply principles of logic or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
