Responsibilities
Assisting the supervisor and clients with audit preparation, including reconciliations, year-end account balance review, supporting schedules for external auditors, preparing State Controller’s Office (SCO) reports, drafting and compiling financial statements and disclosures, and other accounting and advisory duties as assigned by supervisory personnel
Responsible for becoming familiar with the firm’s policies and procedures, researching and analyzing accounting and reporting concepts, understanding the rules, regulations, and Code of Professional Conduct of the AICPA, and developing an understanding of and supporting senior staff with GASB standards implementation
Working closely with experienced team members to develop technical skills and learning the firm’s software for reconciliations, schedules, and reporting
Effectively communicating with clients and team members for smooth information exchanges, as well as with Government Audit department colleagues to address client-specific needs
Participating in team discussions and in PPC’s strategic planning goals while contributing observations to the engagement team regarding client processes and reporting
Willingness to actively develop technical skills through training, mentorship, and on-the-job experience, with a positive and proactive attitude needed to take initiative
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in accounting and current CPA license or actively pursuing certification
Foundational knowledge of accounting principles with a desire to learn governmental accounting and reporting
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail and time management
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel), general office equipment, and online research
Ability to take initiative and accountability in managing and completing multiple tasks from start to finish
Demonstrable experience using sound judgment and logical decision making under minimal supervision
Ability to travel out of town with occasional overnight stays and to work overtime as needed
Must have a valid California Driver's License and a reliable vehicle with adequate insurance
