Research Engineer II
The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine is seeking a Research Engineer II to perform research and development in collaboration with others for various projects. Responsibilities
Resolve novel systems and identify engineering problems which require the development of new techniques or the innovative application of new state-of-the-art technology
Provides support in professional biomedical engineering functions involving medical research practices to support the laboratory’s efforts
Coordinate all design phases with contractor personnel (lab/project managers, other engineers, and technical support personnel)
Direct the integration, fabrication, and functional testing of systems after installation to insure that performance meets specifications and protocol requirements
Sets up, operates, and calibrates laboratory equipment in accordance with research protocols
Researches and collects data through complex laboratory/scientific experiments, techniques, and procedures
Assists in the maintenance of a clean and operational lab space
Assists in ordering and maintaining inventory of supplies for research
Compiles and analyzes data using scientific or statistical techniques
Assists with writing and editing material for publication and presentation
Reports on status of research activities
Routes administrative paperwork related to scientific products
Maintains data and records securely, including the use of an assigned laboratory notebook
Develop models of fluid flow in air and liquid systems
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree plus 2 years of related experience OR Masters' Degree plus demonstratable experience
Thorough understanding of the underlying principles of physics, mathematics and physiology as it applies to biomedical engineering
US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance, including background check and drug screening
All staff required to enter the labs shall maintain current certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS); American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Course; American Red Cross CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation); or equivalent
Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs
Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods
Ability to climb, pull, and lift heavy objects
Preferred
Knowledge of PET techniques
