Electrical Engineer
California Energy Commission is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to support compliance and enforcement of California’s Appliance Energy Efficiency Regulations. This role involves analyzing technical issues, investigating violations, and supporting enforcement actions to promote energy efficiency.
Responsibilities
Analyze complex electrical engineering design and testing issues
Review and interpret laboratory test procedures and reports
Support and conduct audits of engineering test laboratories
Serve as a technical liaison between enforcement staff and test labs
Investigate complaints, tips, and leads related to appliance efficiency violations
Research and apply state, federal, and industry energy standards
Coordinate investigations with legal staff and partner agencies (local, state, and federal)
Develop enforcement cases against non-compliant manufacturers or entities
Conduct interviews with complainants, witnesses, and suspected violators
Collect, analyze, and document technical evidence (data, products, photos)
Coordinate product sampling, testing, inspections, and surveillance
Prepare clear, comprehensive technical investigation reports
Analyze engineering test data and regulatory standards
Maintain accurate case files and evidence records
Brief management and legal teams on findings and recommendations
Provide technical expertise for administrative and judicial proceedings
Assist attorneys with technical documentation and case preparation
Testify as a technical expert when required
Qualification
Required
Experience as an Electrical Engineer
Ability to analyze complex electrical engineering design and testing issues
Experience in reviewing and interpreting laboratory test procedures and reports
Ability to support and conduct audits of engineering test laboratories
Experience in investigating complaints, tips, and leads related to appliance efficiency violations
Knowledge of state, federal, and industry energy standards
Ability to coordinate investigations with legal staff and partner agencies (local, state, and federal)
Experience in developing enforcement cases against non-compliant manufacturers or entities
Ability to conduct interviews with complainants, witnesses, and suspected violators
Experience in collecting, analyzing, and documenting technical evidence (data, products, photos)
