Undergraduate Research Intern (Summer)

The Maritime Aquarium is dedicated to connecting people with Long Island Sound and the ocean. The Undergraduate Research Intern will support the Conservation department by conducting field research and assisting with programmatic work related to the health of Long Island Sound.

Responsibilities

Conduct field research, data collection, and laboratory processing of samples
Assist with preparation and organization of field supplies and equipment
Support Conservation staff on overall program implementation as needed

Required

Must be a current undergraduate student studying biology, ecology, or a related field
Must be at least 18 years of age or older to apply
Must be able to provide their own transportation (by vehicle) to field sites, which can be up to 40 miles from The Maritime Aquarium
Must be comfortable working outside in all weather conditions, including on boats and in mud
Must be able to work collaboratively, work independently, and multi-task
Must be able to carry 35+ pounds over uneven terrain during field research
Must have access to a personal cellphone (for fieldwork or data communication) and a laptop or desktop computer

Preferred

Experience collecting field data preferred
Experience/interest in coastal ecology is a plus

Benefits

Reimbursement for miles driven from the Aquarium to field sites (in excess of a commute to The Maritime Aquarium) will be provided (based on the current IRS reimbursement rate)
