Responsibilities

Developing and/or updating a class syllabus

Ordering appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date

Preparation of projects or other student assignments

Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours

Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course

Meeting all the designated class periods

Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University Regulations

Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner

Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations

Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty

Keeping current with developments and trends in the department’s curriculum and in the field of rhetoric and composition

Qualification

MAMS in related fieldTeaching experienceProfessional Writing Instructor experience

Required

MA or MS with graduate coursework in Composition and Rhetoric, English or related field

Experience teaching writing at college or high school level required

Preferred

Prior experience as a Professional Writing Instructor at SU is preferred; current internal applicants will receive priority consideration
