Responsibilities
Set and execute the technical and organizational strategy for Spend Engineering, balancing latency, feature velocity, and risk controls
Collaborate across cross-functional partners (Product, Risk, Fraud, Data, Compliance) to define goals, sequencing, and tradeoffs
Own delivery and operations of mission‑critical authorization and transaction processing services, with aggressive SLOs, comprehensive runbooks, and high‑quality on‑call practices
Evolve monitoring and alerting around business outcomes like approval rates, decline reasons, latency distribution, and network compliance metrics
Lead architecture to support real‑time spending controls, merchant enrichment, multi‑product authorization logic, and network integrations as we scale
Lead and develop a diverse and talented team of engineers across a spectrum of seniority
Qualification
Required
10+ years of software engineering experience
4+ years managing fullstack teams operating 24x7 services
Strong systems architecture skills across distributed systems, low-latency design, idempotency, and exactly-once processing semantics
Proven track record improving reliability, latency, and on-call effectiveness in high-stakes, real-time domains
Clear, direct communication; ability to align cross-functional stakeholders and lead through ambiguity
Preferred
Experience building and operating card authorization, transaction processing, or payment switching systems at scale
Strong knowledge of ISO 8583, card network rules, and authorization flows
Hands-on exposure to Visa/Mastercard network integrations
Fraud and risk decisioning systems
Spend controls and limits engines
Regulated environments
Large-scale platform refactors
