Structural Analysis Engineer III - New Glenn Upper Stage

Blue Origin is working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems. The Structural Analysis Engineer III will support the development and operations of the New Glenn launch vehicle by performing structural analysis and providing guidance to design engineers.

Responsibilities

Perform analysis on primary and secondary tank structures using classic hand calculations as well as Finite Element Model (FEM) simulations to support design, manufacturing and operations
Creating analysis documentation that is concise and accurate
Perform peer reviews of analysis and reports generated by other team members
Provide structural analysis guidance to design engineers as well as junior structural analysts
Support production issues, ongoing testing and mission operations

Required

B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering and 5+ years of structural analysis experience with aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicle structures or automotive
Demonstrated knowledge of vehicle load path and stress analysis of metallic and/or composite structures (pressure vessels, skin-stringer, fittings, sandwich panels, etc.)
Familiarity with classical aerospace sizing methods (Bruhn, Niu, Roark, etc.)
Knowledge of engineering materials and their applications to achieve optimal structures
Experience with at least two of the following analysis codes: Nastran, Ansys, Abaqus, LS-Dyna, Optistruct, NASGRO
Demonstrated experience using scripting languages (VBA, Matlab, Python, FORTRAN, etc.)
Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Preferred

MS degree in engineering or equivalent
Experience in large scale structural test and instrumentation
Proficiency with ANSYS Mechanical Strongly desired
Working knowledge of linear-elastic fracture mechanics fundamentals
Working knowledge of MATLAB
