Transportation Engineer III, IV, or V - Laredo District - Traffic Operations

Texas Department of Transportation is seeking Transportation Engineers to perform advanced and complex engineering work in various functional areas including planning, project development, traffic operations, and maintenance. The role requires ensuring compliance with federal and state laws and involves significant interaction with governmental officials and private entities.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Evaluates and makes recommendations for developing, monitoring, and updating integrated project plans and schedules so that projects may be executed in the most efficient and effective manner possible
Reviews and supports Standard Operating Procedures for maintaining and archiving project schedules; managing resources; managing budgets; managing project changes, and managing quality performance measurements
Coordinates on design schematics, assists with capacity and level of service studies and reviews in-house and consultant traffic control/traffic management/intelligent transportation systems (ITS) plans and projects
Coordinates traffic engineering studies and traffic counts
Meets with law enforcement agencies and/or city officials to discuss traffic problems and possible solutions
Oversees and/or monitors Community Traffic Safety Programs, activities involving preparation of the District Highway Safety Plan and/or the Traffic Safety Office
Oversees and/or performs traffic engineering studies to recommend solutions for high accident locations, to warrant traffic signals and speed zones and to determine capacity and channelization of the highways
Oversees the operations and maintenance of an ITS operations center/managed area
Provides technical expertise in planning, coordinating, maintaining and operating traffic management systems
Responsible for Traffic Engineering operations
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
Oversees the development and support of transportation operations systems
Performs highly advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts
Performs highly advanced and complex planning work such as plan review, calculations and transportation planning studies
Reviews, develops and supports Standard Operating Procedures for developing, maintaining and archiving project schedules; managing resources; managing budgets; managing project changes, and managing quality performance measurements
Oversees and develops plans for complex project(s) related to their resource assignments, schedules, scope, communication, quality, and/or procurement, while utilizing available resources and maintaining the agency's project objectives
Provides technical information and guidance regarding innovative and experimental technologies to departmental personnel
Serves as a primary help desk resource for highly complex and advanced technical and policy issues
Serves as a team member responsible for overseeing all aspects of the research program in assigned technical area

Required

Bachelor's degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS
6 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience for Transportation Engineer III
7 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience for Transportation Engineer IV
8 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience for Transportation Engineer V
Valid driver's license at the time of application
Licensed Professional Engineer
Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States must meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment
