Real Estate Associate

Withers is an international law firm focused on supporting individuals and organizations at defining moments in their lives. They are seeking a Real Estate Associate to handle complex commercial and residential real estate transactions, including title review and transaction management, while also contributing to business development activities.

Responsibilities

Ability to handle key aspects of complex commercial and residential purchases and sales (e.g. title and survey review, the transaction process, communications with counsel, escrow and principals)
Experience with finance, commercial leasing (office, retail, industrial, ground leasing and agricultural), conveyancing, entitlements/subdivisions, construction and improvements contracts, and structuring, and drafting to form and advise complex ownership vehicles
Knowledge of general real estate taxation issues and compliance with California real estate laws
Strong capability to proactively track and advance a transaction from start to finish, including creating and managing closing checklists and due diligence checklists, and preparing for and assisting with closings
The role will also involve contributing to the team's profile and undertaking business development activities to establish, develop, and maintain long-term relationships; including, writing articles/posts, attending events/conferences and building networks with private wealth contacts/intermediaries including global and peer firms and counsel

Required

Admitted and in good standing with the California Bar
Minimum 3 – 5 years of experience practicing in a law firm's Real Estate group
Strong academic credentials
Domestic experience required
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong drafting, writing, research and communication skills
Proactive self-starter
Strong project management skills with an ability to balance and prioritize multiple assignments
Attention to detail
Team Player with a desire to be trained and deepen and expand skill set

Preferred

International/cross-border experience a plus
Experience—or a strong interest—in working on real estate matters in close collaboration with colleagues across multiple practice areas, including tax, trusts and estates, and litigation
