Responsibilities

Transcribe laboratory testing orders efficiently and accurately

Ensure specimens are properly identified, labeled, collected, and stored

Basic specimen processing

Distribute or track specimens to the appropriate areas of the laboratory for testing

Basic knowledge of specimen collections from individuals of varying ages, diverse physical and mental disabilities, and health conditions

May perform Point of Care Testing (POCT), (if applicable to site)

Explain collection procedures and provide patient instructions to ensure the accurate collection or preparation of specimens, to facilitate patient/caregiver understanding, and to reduce patient anxiety

Handle basic patient complications and escalate patient concerns to leadership

Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids

Maintains a safe and clean working environment

May register patients or provide courier services

Performs other duties as assigned
