Colony Management Intern

Responsibilities

Assisting the Colony Manager with management of transgenic mouse colonies, which may include setting up breeders, weaning pups, collecting tissue for genotyping, record-keeping, and day-to-day operations
Automating SoftMouse (vivarium software) to manage breeding colonies and workflows, improving efficiency and accuracy
Streamlining data entry and assisting with the integration of Transnetyx genotyping services with SoftMouse
Interacting with multiple functional areas within the company, including Vivarium Operations, Research Scientists, and IT/Software Support
Supporting cross-collaborative efforts that may include additional responsibilities such as animal dosing and surgical procedures, depending on project needs
Collaborating with a mentor team of cross-functional team members as well as other interns in the class
Completing a special project and presenting findings and recommendations to senior management upon completion

Required

Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Biology, Lab Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Technology, or a related life science field with an interest in biotechnology
Good verbal and written communication skills
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and accountability
Ability to commit to a 10-week, full-time Summer program in San Diego starting on June 1st, 2026

Preferred

Prior hands-on experience handling laboratory mice is strongly preferred
Familiarity with software implementation or strong computer skills is highly desirable
