Sr Financial Accountant

Responsibilities
Review analysis, reconciliations, and work papers as assigned
Confirm Department tasks are completed accurately & timely
Consolidate, review, and analyze financial submissions and reports for management
Coordinate concise, accurate, consistent, timely, and auditable comments, documentation, and deliverables
Assist in training Financial Accountants & SSC staff
Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement change to achieve desired outcomes
Analyze, research, and make recommendations to resolve unusual or irregular transactions
Work with other departments to insure accurate, consistent, and timely financials. Initiate projects to make the Financial Accountant’s job easier, train the team on the new procedures, and implement
Develop complex ad-hoc reports and financial analysis
Escalate issues noted to management in a timely manner
Maintain Documentation for processes and procedures and update training materials as needed
Analyze financial statements and prepare written documentation (write up) explaining the results of operations and comparison to other benchmarks (prior year, prior months, budget, etc.) Documentation should be clear and concise and expand on the reasons behind the performance or change rather than just what occurred. Analysis should be at a department level with healthy skepticism regarding the nature and timing of expenses. More specific areas of focus include but not limited to
Analyze variable expenses and review closed internal work orders to ensure proper categorization and legitimacy of the expenses
Analyze boat show expenses by category and provide reporting to management on the status of actual expenses to budget
Review allocations and other entries performed by Team Support to ensure accuracy and consistency
Analyze payroll information to ensure proper coding of team members and compare actual expense to budget
Review and analyze other SG&A expenses as directed
Perform financial calls with stores walking them through financial write ups and providing insight into their financial statements. You should be a business partner with your stores and provide recommendations on ways to enhance operations
Review all assigned and unassigned balance sheet accounts per the month end checklist and reconcile support to the GL. This includes but is not limited to: Ensuring all prepaid assets and other long term assets exist and are being properly recognized
Ensuring all inventory accounts are reasonable and balances tie to GL
Ensuring fixed assets recorded by payables are capitalizable and supported and that all fixed asset and accumulated depreciation accounts are accurate based on information provided by TS
Ensuring accruals, debt, and deferred revenue accounts are complete and properly calculated (if applicable)
Assist with any other month end responsibilities as needed
Ensure all balance sheet accounts have been reconciled
Assist with the financial budgeting, forecasting, and projection process. Management requires pro-forma information to make accurate business decisions. As a result, it is essential that we leverage our understanding of trends and operations in order to provide forward looking information
Maintain spreadsheet for all non-scheduled balance sheet accounts throughout the month
Maintain a spreadsheet of store licenses and ensure renewals are done timely
Analyze the escheatment account by researching and resolving aged items
Responsible for scheduling and reconciling BMT and parts inventories
Verify the parts return process is being followed according to MarineMax policy
Make any necessary parts adjustments in accordance with MarineMax policy
Monitor cycle counts on a weekly basis
Assist with special projects, as needed
Provide excellent customer support to our business partners
Other duties as assigned
