Responsibilities
Apply good gardening practices to transplant a variety of plants
Perform duties either as a grounds gardener or greenhouse gardener
Contribute to all types of landscape and long-range plans
Recommend improvements to overall landscape
Use and maintain a variety of auxiliary and power equipment
Select the location for best plant growth and development
Qualification
Required
One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system
Specialized experience defined as: working in a public garden, ground's maintenance, commercial landscape or nursery setting performing gardening tasks and operating small to medium sized power operated landscape equipment which includes leaf blowers, rototillers, string trimmers and lawn mowers
Experience must also include applying chemical substances such as herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides to manage weed control and pests
Two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related to the position
Related degrees may include nursery work that required the growing and maintenance of plants in a controlled environment
Education and experience may be combined to meet the basic qualifications
