Solid Waste Technician IV (CDL Required)

Mecklenburg County is seeking a Solid Waste Technician IV to join their LUESA team, which is dedicated to providing essential environmental services. The role involves operating complex solid waste equipment, ensuring safety procedures are followed, and performing maintenance tasks while engaging with community members.

Responsibilities

Perform load inspections on waste materials such as Yard Debris, Construction and Demolition Debris and monitors incoming loads for unacceptable materials
Operate a variety of equipment in the processing, collection and disposal of recyclables, garbage, trash, and/or refuse. This includes large tub-grinders, angle-blade bulldozers, front-loaders and wheel loader vehicles
Perform complex maintenance and related care of Diesel equipment used in solid waste operations
Keep work area clean and free of debris to prevent damage to incoming vehicles
Drive semi-tractor trailers hauling materials and heavy equipment (walking floor trailers and lowboy trailers)
Assist with cleaning and maintenance of trucks and tools
Load and unloads heavy equipment from trucks and vehicles
Monitor the safety of job sites and co-workers
Operate solid waste vehicles that require a CDL

Required

Minimum of six years of experience
High School Diploma or equivalent
Requires County Driving Privileges
Depending on the area of assignment, may require a Class A or B CDL with one or more of the following endorsements, H(Hazardous Materials), N(Tank Vehicle), P (Passenger Transport), S (School Bus/Passenger Transport), T (Double/Triples), or X (Tanker and hazardous Materials)
Depending upon the area of assignment, may require a Waste Management Operators Certificate (Landfill) or Compost Facility Operators Certificate (Mulch Processing) or Transfer Station Operators Certificate, as required by State regulations and facility permit requirements

Preferred

Experience working in the waste management field and be familiar with the nomenclature of terms, job hazards, and standard limitations of material acceptance
