Compliance Manager

Responsibilities

Conduct regular evaluations of operational processes to identify areas of non-compliance and potential vulnerabilities
Recommend proactive measures to mitigate risks and ensure regulatory alignment
Build and operate compliance analytics to identify trends, anomalies, and emerging risks
Translate complex data into clear insights for leadership
Design and maintain clear, actionable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and compliance policies
Ensure consistent application across all business units to minimize risk and enhance operational integrity
Utilize tracking tools and reporting systems to monitor adherence to policies
Issue timely notices and escalate concerns in accordance with established protocols
Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of regulatory development and trends which apply to business area
Revise and modify company policies to minimize risk of legal non-compliance issue
Partner with HRM’s, District Managers and RDO’s to implement corrective measures
Provide strategic guidance to drive continuous improvement and accountability
Develop and deliver compliance training programs for employees and managers
Reinforce understanding of policies, procedures, and expectations through engaging and effective learning experiences
Maintain accurate records of compliance activities, notices, and disciplinary actions
Ensure documentation aligns with company standards and applicable regulatory requirements
Liaise with legal attorneys to address legal compliance issues
Prepare audit reports and present findings to senior management and compliance committees
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of field safety professionals; set clear expectations, hold accountability, and foster a culture of trust, motivation, and continuous growth
Enforce safety protocols with consistency and fairness, modeling best practices while inspiring others through example
Maintain resilience and patience when facing challenges, demonstrating adaptability in dynamic field environments
Manage one’s own emotions and those of others effectively
Identify root causes and implement strategic solutions
Adjust leadership style to different personalities and environments
Set boundaries and expectations firmly while maintaining fairness
Understand team perspectives and foster a positive, supportive culture
Mediate disagreements constructively and promote collaboration
Maintain composure, persistence, and patience in the face of challenges

Required

Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field
Minimum 5 years of experience in safety, compliance, or risk management within retail, fuel, or multi-site operations
Proven track record of managing regulatory compliance programs and workplace safety initiatives
Experience conducting audits, investigations, and implementing corrective actions
Strong understanding of federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, ADA, labor laws, tobacco/alcohol sales)
Familiarity with California-specific employment and safety laws
Ability to develop and enforce policies and procedures across diverse teams
Excellent communication and training facilitation skills
Proficiency in compliance and safety management systems (e.g., NAVEX, Workday, incident tracking platforms)
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work cross-functionally

Preferred

OSHA 30-Hour Certification
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent
Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP) is a plus
