Climate Resiliency and Planning Intern (Summer 2026!)
CDM Smith is seeking an intern to join our team for the summer of 2026. You will work with a dynamic team supporting a diverse portfolio of hazard mitigation and resilience planning projects, assisting with research, data collection, and analysis.
Responsibilities
Support developing options and analysis papers, fact sheets, and other internal and external-facing documents
Support data evaluation tasks to develop program efficiencies and improvements
Use Benefit-Cost Analysis tools
Prepare analysis, summaries, and presentation material based on the above tasks
Support the implementation of hazard mitigation, disaster recovery and resilience planning programs for FEMA, state, and local clients
Perform data analysis, use of GIS Systems, and other ad-hoc assignments as needed
Qualification
Required
Currently enrolled in Bachelors or Masters program
Ability to write clearly and concisely for a variety of audiences, including technical staff, policymakers, and the public
Ability to work with both qualitative and quantitative data to locate, evaluate, and synthesize information from academic, governmental, and industry sources
Ability to think critically, identify assumptions, evaluate arguments, and consider alternate perspectives, applying logic and reasoning to solve problems and recommend improvements
Preferred
Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain a FEMA badge, which includes a background investigation for a Public Trust position
The ideal candidate for this position is Planning, Emergency Management, Policy, Engineering or Science student
