Radio Technician I - SR-19

NEOGOV is looking for a Radio Technician I to join the Technical Services Division of the County of Hawai'i. Responsibilities

Adjusts, tests, services, maintains, and installs radio transmitters, receivers, and other communications equipment in vehicles and permanent locations
Takes periodic frequency, power, and modulation measurements of transmitters to ascertain compliance with FCC requirements
Maintains records, per FCC requirements, of work performed on transmitters
Takes field strength measurements to determine operational coverage
Inspects radio equipment for defects and makes necessary repairs
Performs periodic inspections and adjusts and repairs as necessary transmitting and receiving equipment
Designs, installs, maintains, and repairs inter-communication and public address systems
Modifies existing telecommunications equipment for specific use such as by changing radio frequencies, antenna directivity patterns and characteristics, remote control consoles and accessories to be compatible with system design changes, fabricating unusual installation hardware for equipment, and modifying existing electronic circuits to adapt to newer requirements and maintain maximum utilization
Designs and constructs new equipment for specific uses such as unique controls, switches, circuits, and amplifiers for radio, audio, recorders, and other equipment
Monitors radio message between stations or vehicles to ascertain the efficiency and clarity of the messages
Instructs and informs departmental personnel concerned in the proper use, care, and operation of radio-telephone communications equipment according to FCC rules and regulations
Checks operational procedures and records for compliance with FCC requirement
Studies departmental rules and regulations, and other technical material
Maintains off-site equipment by performing periodic preventive maintenance checks
Upkeeps surrounding grounds to ensure access to equipment and to prevent obstructions and interference with the functionality of equipment

Required

Graduation from high school
Supplemented by technical training in electronics and radio communications
Three (3) years of technical work experience involving the installation, maintenance, repair, and modification of radio communications or related equipment
Possession of a valid State of Hawai`i driver's license (Class 3) or any other valid comparable driver's license at the time of filing
