Autonomous Robotics Engineer

Responsibilities
Lead the design, commissioning, and launch of AMR systems for in-plant material flow
Partner with cross-functional teams (Controls, IT, Safety, Operations, Manufacturing Engineering) to plan and integrate AMR/AGV systems into facility operations
Diagnose and resolve issues across controls, networking, software, and system integration during facility commissioning and launch
Drive continuous improvement activities to enhance AMR throughput, uptime, fleet behavior, and system robustness
Benchmark Best-in-World AMR/AGV deployments and translate findings into Ford’s automation strategy and standards
Lead design reviews, risk assessments, readiness evaluations, commissioning processes, and handoff to plant operations
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, mechatronics, computer science, or a related field
2+ years of experience deploying automation or robotics systems in a manufacturing environment
Working knowledge of controls systems, industrial networking, and IT/OT interfaces related to robotics
Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally to support launch activities
Must be open to travel
Preferred
Strong self-starter with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive issues to closure
Experience with PLC controls (Allen-Bradley preferred), industrial robotics, AMR/AGV platforms, or virtual commissioning tools
Understanding of safety, quality, and regulatory standards related to AGV/AMR technologies
Familiarity with Lean and/or Six Sigma methodologies
Experience with system-level debugging, root-cause analysis, and performance optimization
