Associate General Counsel, Office of the General Counsel - UT System Administration (Memphis)
The University of Tennessee System is the state’s oldest higher education institution and preeminent public university. This position will primarily involve proactively advising administrators at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center on various matters relating to employment law and academic affairs, while also supporting Graduate Medical Education across the state.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities will primarily include proactively advising administrators at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), a statewide academic medical center with principal offices in Memphis, Tennessee. This position will advise on a variety of matters relating to employment law and academic, faculty, and student affairs, including but not limited to academic policies, faculty, staff, and trainees (residents and fellows), employment policies, First Amendment, Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, Clery Act, FERPA, ADA, and student conduct. Additionally, this position will support Graduate Medical Education across the state
Provides work direction to assigned paralegal or legal secretary, and law clerks
Qualification
Required
J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
Tennessee law license or eligibility for Tennessee license
five (5) years of civil practice experience in a law firm or in a corporate, higher education, or government legal office
record of outstanding achievements as a practicing attorney
excellent academic record
exceptional analytical, problem-solving, diplomatic, and oral and written communication skills
demonstrated ability to manage multiple, demanding tasks
demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and work independently in a highly collegial and high-performing environment
highly versatile set of legal skills
pragmatic and objective business acumen and ability to recognize the broader consequences of legal advice
ability to perceive and explain to non-lawyers the practical application of law and policy in complex situations
high degree of personal integrity, sound judgment, and a commitment to accountability
initiative and intellectual curiosity
Preferred
More than ten (10) years of experience in the practice of law
