On-Ramps is assisting Proteus Fund, which mobilizes donor collaboratives and provides fiscal sponsorship to advance social justice. The Controller will lead the finance team, oversee accounting functions, ensure compliance, and partner with the CFO to enhance financial operations and reporting.

Responsibilities

Oversee the activities of the finance department to ensure the accurate and timely dissemination of financial reports including, but not limited to, internal and external financial statements

Oversee activities to ensure the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash controls

Partner with CFO to design, implement, and update financial systems and processes to optimize alignment with financial policies and procedures, streamline work, and create efficiencies

Develop accounting procedures and documentation that align with established policies to ensure the accuracy and integrity of complex financial records

Manage the general ledger and financial systems

Manage monthly and annual closing process

Develop and provide financial education and tools to support all staff

Partner with the CFO to coordinate and implement the annual budget process ensuring timely and accurate planning

Develop a reliable cash flow forecast process and reporting mechanism

Create financial models, to support financial analysis and forecasts

Supervise program financial reporting executed by Staff Accountants to ensure accurate and timely reporting

Lead the audit preparation process for annual organizational external audits, annual 401(k) audits, and any other audit process, as needed

Lead the process to respond to all audit fieldwork requests

Lead the process to update and maintain audit schedules on a monthly basis for most items, and on a quarterly basis for a select few items, as designated by the CFO

Lead process to develop all tax related schedules, including, but not limited to IRS Form 990 Schedule B, Schedule C, Schedule D, Schedule I, and Schedule J

Collaborate with CFO to manage tax-related requests and inquiries from external audit firm

Act as back up for CFO for any compliance related inquiries and tasks

Required

Master's degree or equivalent and 10 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience

At least 3 years of experience as a people manager

Experience with financial management of multiple entities (at least 2) required

Strong interpersonal and communication skills including exceptional cross-functional communication abilities

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and work efficiently in a virtual setting

Ability to work collaboratively with a team that is diverse and inclusive

Commitment to the vision, mission, and values of Proteus Fund and PAL as philanthropic social justice organizations

Preferred

Preferred experience includes: philanthropy / philanthropic accounting and management; working within a 501c(4); support of fiscally sponsored projects

CPA preferred
